  • Graphics: GeForce RTX 2060 | 6GB
  • Refresh Rate: 120Hz
  • Display: 15.6-inch FHD
  • RAM: 16GB

This is the best gaming laptop under the 1 lakh mark. No other device comes close to this device in terms of sheer raw power.

This is the only device in the list presented here which has the new RTX graphics card which has Turing architecture, supports ray tracing and has AI to enhance the performance.

Performance

This Asus TUF laptop has an AMD Ryzen 7 3750H processor in it. This is a good processor in terms of power. The in the processor stands for high performance. It is comparable to the Intel i7 processor.

The Ryzen processor present in it operates in the range of 2.3 to 4GHz frequency. Now don’t go comparing this frequency with other Intel processors. Frequency is not a performance metric that can be compared between different processors as different processors can have different architecture.

Talking about the graphics card it has the new RTX 2060 which is based on Turing architecture. It is far better than the GTX 1050ti.

In the benchmark, it comes 100+ percent better in performance from GTX 1050ti

It features 16GB of RAM and you no longer have to worry about extra RAM in the near future. However, if you feel you need extra, you can upgrade it up to 32GB

You get a 512GB high-speed SSD along with an empty slot for inserting a HDD for having more space on the device.

Design & Display

Like every other Asus TUF series laptop, this laptop is neat and good in terms of design, aesthetics and look.

It is lightweight, portable and has a normal build quality

Being a gaming laptop it is still lightweight and weighs 2.2 kg only making it portable and easy to carry.

Like all major laptops, it has a normal display size of 15.6-inch. Not too big nor too small. However, a big screen is better for gaming. But don’t expect that in a laptop under 1lakh.

The good part of the display is its 144Hz refresh rate which is fine and better than having a 60Hz refresh rate.

Ports & Connectivity

It has Wi-Fi 802.11ac and Bluetooth for internet connection.

Talking about the ports, it has one USB 2.0 port, two USB 3.0 ports, an audio jack, LAN port, and HDMI port. Here we do not get a Type-C port.

Other Features

Comes with a 3 Cell Battery which uses a 65 W Adapter. The battery backup can last up to 3-4 hours on normal usage

The keyboard is full size, island-style keyboard with backlighting

Comes with Windows 10 Home Edition as OS.

Pros
  • Good Refresh Rate
  • Ray Tracing Technology
  • Great Storage Options
Cons

On our 2nd list is the most bought gaming laptop series in India, the Acer Nitro laptops

Acer does a good job with its nitro gaming laptops, not only are they cheaper than other laptops with the same specs but also have good build quality.

It is not that Acer uses cheap material to bring the price down. The build quality and design are also good in nitro gaming laptops.

Performance

The Acer Nitro 5 is powered by Intel i7 8750H which is an 8th generation i7 processor. This is the only laptop I have listed here that has an i7 processor.

Though for gaming performance graphics cards are more important than processors. But still having a better processor will help in performing other heavy tasks too. It will future proof your laptop for some years from upgrading unless you want a better gaming experience.

Coming to the graphics unit we have Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050Ti which is good for playing all types of games at low to moderate fps.

The ‘Ti’ in GTX 1050Ti stands for Titanium and is more powerful than the non-Ti versions. The GTX 1050ti is almost 15% better than GTX 1050 in terms of performance

It has 8GB of DDR4 RAM which can be upgraded up to 32GB. Having a 16GB RAM configuration would be best in a 2 x 8GB Dual-channel mode, this will increase the performance.

It comes with 128GB of SSD along with 1TB of HDD. You may never run out of memory for storing your movies, applications, music. 128GB SSD is a little low, but you can upgrade it to 256GB or 512GB of SSD.

Design & Display

Like all other Acer nitro laptops, this laptop is also good in terms of looks and aesthetics.

The red backlit keyboards with red-colored hinge give you the gaming feel you want from a gaming laptop.

It is portable and weighs 2.7 kg, it may feel little heavy but is fine for a gaming laptop

For thermal conduction and cooling, it has got 2 fans and Acer cool boost for controlling the fans.

The Screen Display is a 15.6-inch IPS panel with full HD resolution, these all will give you the most out of your gaming experience. It will also give you enhanced experience while watching a movie.

There is one setback in this device that is its refresh rate of 60Hz. If you are a pro gamer like me that can see the difference between the fps while gaming then you may look for other laptops with higher refresh rates.

Ports & Connectivity

Has Wi-Fi 801.11ac and Bluetooth 5.0 for connectivity.

It has two USB 2.0 ports, one USB 3.0 port, an audio jack, an Ethernet LAN port, an HDMI port. We also get a Type-C port with an all-in-one SD card reader

Other Features

The battery is a 4 cell lithium battery which according to the company can last up to 7 hours but expect it to last 4 hours on moderate usage and around 1.5 hours while gaming.

Make sure to keep the power on while gaming as it will not put pressure on the battery or degrade your gaming experience.

Listening to music is a charm with Dolby Audio Premium which enhances your listening experience.

  • IPS Panel
  • Good Build Quality
Cons

Another great gaming laptop from Lenovo equally good to the above laptops listed.

The Lenovo Legion is the gaming range of laptops and desktops from Lenovo focused on performance. The company is doing good in its legion series.

On our last list, we have HP Omen gaming laptop model 15-en0001AX. Omen is the gaming series of laptops by HP.

The specs and its benefits I am going to tell you are remarkable at this price range, but we have one very big con too which I am going to tell in the display part.

Performance

The HP Omen laptop is killing it with the Ryzen 5 4600H which is a Hexa-core AMD processor. Its base operating frequency is 3.0Ghz and goes up-to 4.0GHz in boost mode.

Talking about its graphics card we get a GeForce GTX 1650Ti – based on Turing architecture and ray tracing technology. This graphics card gives the best performance in this price range following RTX cards.

Gaming Laptop Buying Guide

Quick Tips

  • GPU is main – GPU is the most important part of a gaming device. Some games are even GPU dependent, meaning they can’t run without a GPU. Look for a better GPU
  • Choose full HD or higher – For getting the optimum viewing experience – look for full HD or higher resolution.
  • Choose 120Hz or higher refresh rate – Refresh Rate is the frames or images a screen can display per second. We gamers need high fps while gaming. To display these high frames per second, the display needs to have a high refresh rate.
  • Get a good keyboard and external mouse – Having a sturdy keyboard with good spaced, backlit keys would be better. You can’t play games with your laptop touchpad, go get an external wireless mouse.
  • Battery life would always be bad – Don’t look for a laptop based on the battery backup as no matter what every gaming laptop battery backup would be poor.

GPU is the most important aspect in gaming

Unlike a CPU which is the brain of the computer, a GPU is a specialized processing unit that focuses on producing raping images or frames.

GPU is meant for doing heavy graphics-intensive tasks like gaming, video editing, photo editing, Autocad, etc

While a CPU can also run games but the majority of the games are GPU-bound, meaning that cannot run without a GPU.

The 3 types of GPUs you will see are the integrated ones, the GPUs by AMD and GPUs by Nvidia.

Integrated GPU is not meant for gaming it is designed for casual usage like internet surfing and watching movies. GPU produced by AMD is for basic tasks and entry-level gaming, only Nvidia produces powerful GPUs specialized for gaming

Entry Level Gaming

For entry-level gaming, Radeon graphics produced by AMD or GeForce MX ones produced by Nvidia would be fine.

Moderate Gaming

For moderate gaming, AMD graphic cards would not suffice. You need the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050 or similar ones in performance.

High End Gaming

For high-end gaming, you require the latest graphics card based on Turing Architecture that has ray tracing in it. These are GTX 1650ti, RTX 2060 and similar ones.

Display – The 2nd most important aspect of Gaming

It is also an important factor in gaming, a display can either make or break your gaming experience.

Size

Gaming laptops are seen in sizes of 14 inches to 17 inches with 15.6 inches the most common. The Bigger the screen size the better the gaming visuals.

However, if you look for a laptop with a screen size greater than 15.6-inch, you will have to trade portability against it.

Bigger size is better for gaming but decreases the portability

Screen size greater than 15.6-inch can’t be fitted in a normal size backpack. So do make sure of the size you choose.

You can also buy a big size external monitor to play games via connecting your laptop to it.

Resolution

We can see screen resolution with 720p, 1080p and 4k in laptops.

Higher resolution means better picture quality and sharpness.

1080p is becoming the standard in almost every device while 720p is and will become obsolete with time.

So opting for 1080p Full HD resolution would be better, you can still get HD resolution laptops at a cheaper price. But I don’t recommend it.

Refresh Rate

This is also the most important aspect in gaming, the higher the refresh rates the better the gaming experience.

In gaming laptops, you will not find displays with very high refresh rates but can find one with good refresh rates. Still looking for 120, 144Hz or more would be better. You will find many with a 60Hz refresh rate.

If you have a good budget then never buy a device with a 60Hz refresh rate display.

There is a difference between refresh rate and fps. Don’t take these terms as the same. Refresh Rate is the display refreshing frames per second while the fps is frames produced by the GPU per second. Both need to be high at the same time for gaming.

Processor

processor

The processor is the brain of the computer. It gives instructions to various parts and units for performing certain tasks.

It is not as important as a graphics card in gaming but still getting a good processor will be useful.

If you are on a tight budget and see two laptops – one with a slower processor but a better graphics card and another with better processor but low-end graphics card. Buy the one with a lower processor and better graphics card. Why? As a graphics card is the one that does the heavy lifting in gaming, it is more important than the processor in gaming.

Also when buying a low-end CPU with high-end GPU do check the bottlenecking of the processor with the graphics card present in the laptop you look for.

A low-end processor may not be able to match the speed of high-end GPU and cause CPU bottleneck.

For example, an i5 9300H(low-end processor) with RTX 2060(high-end GPU) will produce a 10% bottleneck

Bottleneck leads to low performance and lag.

Intel vs AMD

In processor, we got two options Intel & AMD.

Both are manufacturing great processors currently. In terms of performance both are comparable.

Earlier Intel was dominating the processor industry, but now AMD is giving serious competition to Intel.

In terms of single-core speed, Intel is performing slightly better. In terms of money, AMD costs cheaper.

If you are on a budget then grabbing a laptop with AMD processor would be a good option as due to its cheaper rate you will get a better graphics card on your laptop.

Thermal Design

thermal desing of laptop

Thermal Design refers to the design and placement of vents, fans, heatsink in the laptop to allow better heat flow and reduce heating.

Gaming is resource-intensive and produces way more heat than doing normal internet surfing. The high amounts of heat produced need to be thrown out from the laptop or it will damage the internal parts. That’s why gaming laptops wear out faster due to high heat which damages the internals.

A Good Thermal Design can take care of your laptop’s temperature by throwing out the hot air efficiently

Despite having a good thermal design a laptop can still heat up while placed on the desk. As the bottom of the device and the desk is having no space in between for proper ventilation and good heat conduction.

So getting a laptop stand or cooling pad is recommended, it will not only produce space between the bottom of the device but also help in better cooling.

RAM

RAM is also crucial for gaming. More the Better.

8GB RAM has become the minimum in laptops even for casual tasks. Windows 10 itself consumes 2.5-3GB of RAM. You are left with nearly 4 GB of RAM to play games.

Many games will suffice with this left RAM but high-end games can take more space than 4GB of RAM.

So look for a laptop in which RAM is not soldered and have two ram slots – one occupied and another empty.

The empty slot can be used in the future to upgrade it to 16GB RAM.

By placing two ram chips of the same size you can achieve Dual Channel Mode which can increase performance and enhance your gaming experience.

Keyboard & mouse

Now that we have discussed the laptop components necessary for performance. We need to consider the other components which will enable you to play games better, that is a keyboard and mouse.

The Keyboard present on the laptop should be strong and sturdy but not bulky. Also, it should have good spacing between the keys.

For a better experience, you can buy an external keyboard.

You would also require to buy an external mouse as you can’t expect to play games using your laptop touchpad.

Sound

Generally, the speakers provided in a laptop are loud enough.

But if you want to really enjoy gaming and have an impressive experience then you must invest in a good headphone.

Buy a Good headphone to get better audio quality.

You don’t want to get killed in PUBG just because you failed to hear someone sneaking up on you 🙂

Ports

Don’t buy a laptop with fewer ports. Look for at least three ports.

You would most probably be connecting a cooling pad, an external keyboard and mouse with your laptop consuming your two ports. So if your device has 3 ports, you are left with one port that can be used for connecting external storage devices like a pen drive or hard drive.

Final Thoughts

This was all about the best gaming laptops under 100000. I hope that you find the right gaming laptop for your needs

At last, If you ask me about What is the best gaming laptop? I would reply “Buy a Desktop”.

A gaming laptop can never compete with a desktop build in terms of performance. A 1lakh laptop cannot match even a 60,000 desktop PC.

But yes when it comes to portability a laptop always win.

I hope you found this post informative. If you have any query or stuck in choosing the right laptop, you may ask your query in the comment section
